Q: How is cultured marble made?
A: Cultured marble is molded from man—made polymers that bond to a protective gel coat. Although it is physically unrelated to naturally occurring marble, it is hard, durable and lustrous—and usually features striations that resemble natural stone. All cultured marble is manufactured at our plant in Jacksonville, Florida.
Q: What kinds of uses are appropriate for cultured products?
A: Bathrooms and sometimes dressing areas and laundry rooms are most suitable. For your kitchen we recommend one of our finely crafted solid surface, granite or quartz products. Cultured marble products for the bath include seamless vanity tops with bowls, bathtubs in a variety of configurations and sizes, and sleek, seamless showers with pans.
Q: How do I clean cultured marble?
A: Cultured marble is sealed and nonporous, but it is not scratchproof. With reasonable care, it will retain its luster for years, but should never be scrubbed with abrasive cleaning products or scrub pads. Instead, wipe down with glass cleaner, 409 or a disinfectant. For more cleaning tips, see Care and Maintenance.
Q: What about stubborn stains like mold and mildew?
A: Cultured marble is non-porous, making it naturally resistant to mold and mildew. Because it is seamless, there is no mildew-prone grouting to worry about. If mold or mildew should occur, wipe clean with a mildew remover. Cultured products are not normally sensitive to household cleaning chemicals, except abrasives and strong acids.
Q: I'm replacing a vanity top and counter in an existing bathroom and am considering cultured marble. Will you have something that fits?
A: Cultured products can be made to almost any specification. An FCM representative will take on-site measurements of your existing bathroom and custom-fit your replacement vanity and top.
